 HHMI Undergraduate Research Symposium

The Howard Hughes Medical Institute hosted the 2008 Undergraduate Life Science Research Symposium at the University of Massachusetts Amherst on Wednesday, April 23rd.

The UMass Undergraduate Life Science Research Symposium showcased interdisciplinary science research at the undergraduate level. The Junior Fellows in the Life Sciences at the University of Massachusetts hosted the event . All Five College undergraduates conducting independent research in the life sciences were encouraged to present their work, especially seniors completing capstone experiences.

The symposium consisted of a poster session, where undergradautes presented their research, followed by a Keynote Lecture given by Dr. Robert Horvitz on "Programmed Cell Death in Development and Disease".

The Massachusetts Academy of Sciences attended the poster session of the symposium, supporting undergraduate research and introducing ourselves to the undergraduate population of the University of Massachusetts Amherst.

And, of course, we brought Monty!
