 MAS Initiatives

Programs, projects, services, resources and events that we are working on to provide for our members.

  1. MAS is visiting public libraries across the state to provide information about MAS for their patrons.
  2. Check out the new display at UMass Amherst!
  3. MAS has volunteered to be a Ready Rep and be part of the governor's program to spread the word about his initiatives.
  4. MAS Science Volunteers - Target Launch RIGHT NOW

We are creating a volunteer network that will include high school and college students, professional scientists and educators and interested people. This group will be tasked with promoting science and science education in our state. Current challenges we are tackling:

    1. Science for Kids - a program where college students employ prepackaged "show and tell" kits and travel to middle and high school classrooms to engage and excite our children about science. We have already produced our first "show and tell" kit: Microbes for the Masses, which are targeted for middle school students and includes a slide show and a set of experiments. We welcome suggestions for future kits and requests for our team to visit your schools.
    2. Science for the Public - a program where scientists and science educators will travel to your town and provide talks about hot topics in science, how to improve science education for your kids, how science impacts your daily life, and more. We welcome requests for our Science for the Public Program!

Check out our Volunteers page and learn how we can help you be an active part of your community!

MAS Science Podcasts - Target Launch Summer 2008

We will soon provide monthly podcasts to highlight the current state of science research and education in Massachusetts. A group of college student volunteers are interviewing some of the leading scientists and science educators in our state. Each month a different topic will be explored. Current topics include: Microbes are Man's Best Friend, How to Turn Leaves Into Energy, Powering a Battery with Bacteria? Look for these podcasts to launch this summer!
